FAQ Schema Guide for Tool Pages and Articles

Create FAQ structured data that matches visible questions, validates correctly and does not make promises about rich results.

Structured data must match the visible page

Every marked-up question and answer should be available to visitors on the same page. Do not add unrelated keywords or answers that are hidden only for search engines.

Use FAQPage for genuine single-answer FAQs. A community page where users submit multiple answers has a different content model and should not be forced into FAQ markup.

Generate clean JSON-LD

Keep one mainEntity item per question and escape quotes or line breaks correctly. Paste the finished script into the rendered page rather than displaying it as visible prose.

If a CMS already outputs FAQ schema, avoid creating a second conflicting block. Duplicate or inconsistent entities make maintenance and debugging harder.

Validate the deployed page

A JSON formatter only confirms syntax. Use Google’s Rich Results Test and Schema.org validator to inspect the actual public URL after deployment.

Validation does not guarantee a special search appearance. Eligibility and display depend on Google policies, supported use cases and search-system decisions.

Maintain answers as the page changes

Update or remove schema when visible questions change. Dates, prices, product behavior and policies can become inaccurate even when the JSON remains technically valid.

Prefer a short set of useful questions over dozens of repetitive variations. The purpose is to describe real page content, not to manufacture search coverage.

No. Valid markup establishes eligibility only; Google decides when and where supported search features appear.
